DVI(Digital Visual Interface)is the interface for Digital flat panel LCD monitors and video cards which was developed by the Digital Display Working Group(DDWG).Because the resolution of P & D or DFP is only 1280x1024 pixels("SXGA") while the future HDTV needs a resolution of 1920x1080 pixel, the DVI interface is becoming more prevalent and is expected to become widely used for digital display decices, including flat-panel displays and emerging digital CRTs.It's maximum resulation can be up to 2048x1536 pixel.Another advantage is that the digital signal can be transmitted to an analog device via DVI interface directly without a aouble conversion. There are a numble of versions of DVI,including DVI-I(analog & digital together),DVI-D(digital only)and DVI-A(analog only).
